Project Syndicate article on ageing society response to pandemic

In the last large pandemic, the Great Influenza 2.5% of the population was over 70. Now over 10% of the population is over 70. Our ageing society builds the question of how do we take care of our older population? Social distancing means greater gains for us as a society during Covid-19.

Its not just the demographic shift for an ageing population, but people are also living longer healthier lives. This means the statistical value of an older person is greater today than in the 1920’s. It is in the interest of society to act on public health measures to support our ageing society and longer lives.
