UN DESA Talk: Preparing for 8 Billion People

The world is preparing to mark a milestone on 15 November, when the global population will surpass 8 billion according to data from the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA). In order for all 8 billion of us to live our best lives, we must take action now to ensure that we are on a path for a sustainable future.

To present the policy implications of our growing population to a wide audience, especially to young people who are launching their adult lives in the context of an increasingly populated world, UN DESA will host a Global Policy Dialogue featuring several experts on the issue. In this intergenerational dialogue, members of the UN High-level Advisory Board on Economic and Social Affairs, UN DESA Population Division staff, leaders representing older persons and young people will consider ways to best accommodate this growth.

The time is now to use this data to enhance preparedness measures and ensure sustainable development.

This event is made possible by the UN Peace and Development Trust Fund. Captions will be available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. Translation will be available into American Sign Language. All are welcome.
